Who is responsible
PalmLeaf Psychospiritual Support Services (Abel Njeru, MA, Counselling Psychologist, Lang’ata Road, next to Karen Hospital, Nairobi) is the data controller for the personal information described here, under Kenya’s Data Protection Act, 2019. Contact: palmleaf00@gmail.com or 0716 876 680 (WhatsApp 0743 974 151). ODPC registration number: [to be added].
What we collect and why
- When you get in touch: your name, contact details and a short note about what you need, to reply and arrange a first conversation.
- If you become a client: contact and background details, session notes, questionnaire results, agreements and payment records, to provide safe and effective care, manage fees, and meet professional and legal duties.
- Some of this is health information, which the law treats as sensitive. It is used only with your explicit consent or as the law allows for health care provided under a duty of confidentiality.
This website does not use advertising or tracking cookies.
Where it is kept
Client records are kept in a secure, password-protected practice system with two-step sign-in, on encrypted servers operated by our hosting provider in Johannesburg, South Africa. This is a transfer outside Kenya, made under the safeguards required by Kenyan law and with your consent. [A complete copy is also kept in a data centre in Nairobi.] Email is used only for appointments, forms and receipts, and never contains details of what we discuss.
Who sees it
Only your counsellor. Information is not shared with family, employers, formators, schools or insurers without your written permission, except where the law or safety requires it (for example a serious risk of harm, or a court order). Your information is never sold or used for marketing.
How long it is kept
Seven years after our last contact (for a child, until they turn 25 if that is later), then securely destroyed. Enquiries that do not lead to counselling are deleted after one year.
Your rights
You may ask to see your information, to correct it, to receive a copy, to object to or restrict its use, and to have it deleted where the law allows. Write to the email above. We will respond within the times set by law, free of charge. You may also complain to the Office of the Data Protection Commissioner at www.odpc.go.ke.
